Ride-hitching service 

Didi Chuxing, China’s largest ride-hailing company, recently came under fire after an air hostess(空姐) in Henan was allegedly (据称) murdered by her Didi Hitch driver on May 6. Didi has since apologized and announced new measures to prevent such cases from happening again. It announced on May 16 that its ride-hitching service would not be available between 10 pm and 6 am for the time being.

中国最大的网约车公司滴滴出行近来处于舆论漩涡的中心。据报道，5月6日，一名空姐在河南被搭乘的滴滴顺风车司机杀害。此后，滴滴出行方面道歉，并表示将出台新举措防止类似事件发生。5月16日，滴滴出行宣布，将暂停接受22点-6点期间出发的顺风车订单。

种族歧视风波

Racial firestorm

US coffee company Starbucks announced on May 10 it would open its bathrooms to anyone, no matter if they buy anything or not, after it was involved in a racial firestorm. In April, two African-American men weren’t allowed to use the bathroom of a US Starbucks store as they didn’t buy anything. Both men were later arrested when they refused to leave. The case soon went viral online, with many accusing the company of racial discrimination (歧视). Later, Starbucks apologized to the pair.

5月10日，美国咖啡公司星巴克宣布，店内洗手间将对所有人开放，无论其是否在店内消费。今年4月，两名非洲裔美国男子在未消费的情况下，要求使用费城某家星巴克店内洗手间未果。星巴克要求二人离开但遭到拒绝，随后两人被逮捕。事件在网络上迅速传播，很多人控诉星巴克此举是种族歧视。随后，星巴克向两人道歉。

宣誓就职

Be sworn in

Vladimir Putin was sworn in on May 7 to start his fourth term as Russian president, reported Xinhua News Agency. He pledged (宣誓) to help build a free society in Russia and promote (促进) the country’s economic competitiveness (竞争力) and technological development. Putin won a big victory in the March 18 presidential election, with over 56 million people voting for him.

据新华网报道，俄罗斯联邦新一届总统普京7日在克里姆林宫宣誓就职，开始其第四个总统任期。普京宣誓尊重并维护公民自由，促进俄罗斯经济竞争力和技术发展。3月18日，普京以独立候选人身份参加俄第七届总统竞选，得到超过5600万俄罗斯人民的选票。

马上学：除了be sworn in, “宣誓就职”还可说take the oath of office。
